The concept for Jim & June was inspired by the classic American diners of Brooklyn, New York.

After an inspiring trip to the U.S., the client sought to recreate the atmosphere, energy, and distinctive style of American cuisine and service in the heart of Cologne.

A central element of their experience was the iconic New York subway tiles. However, when we began our design discussions in Germany, I proposed reinterpreting the traditional American diner aesthetic with a more contemporary and European sensibility.

This vision emphasized key design elements such as Spanish tiles from Cevica and a custom terrazzo floor by Huguet, for which a dedicated team was brought in from Mallorca to Cologne.

In keeping with the European collaboration, the chairs were sourced from Italy through MIDJ and Purinam, table legs from Mebella in Poland, German woodwork crafted in Cologne, and the plants and pots were from the Netherlands.

All elements of the interior are coordinated to complement the green tiles, which serve as a unifying design feature. The tile frames around each window add a distinct character. to the interior. The terrazzo floor pays homage to the classic Cologne terrazzo style floors, while introducing a modern, European twist to create a fresh and contemporary atmosphere.
